The 2023 Soundcity MVP Award ceremony was held on Saturday, February 11th, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria and as expected numerous celebrities were in attendance.

Several Nigerian musicians such as Burnaboy, Kizz Daniel, Tems, Ruger, Asake, Rema, and Oxlade, were duly recognized for their significant contributions to Afrobeats in the year 2022.

Asake was named the Best Nigerian Act Male, Burna Boy bagged the Best African Act award, Tems won the award for Best Nigerian Act Female, Ruger was named Best New Artist, Rema won the Digital Artist of the Year award. Black Sherif won the Best Hip Hop artist, and South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa was honoured as the Best DJ.

Nonetheless, one of the most special moments of the ceremony that captured the hearts of the audience and the public was when Ini Edo, Chidi Mokeme, and Mercy recreated their roles from the popular Netflix series, Shanty Town while presenting an award on stage.

As we all know, Shanty Town, which features a star-studded cast, has been a trending topic online since its release. Chidi Mokeme is known for his role as ‘Scar’, Mercy Eke as ‘Jackie’, and Ini Edo as “Inem”.
