Veteran Nollywood actor Davis Ofor, popularly known as Clarus in New Masquerade, has died, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and fans

Veteran Nollywood actor Davis Ofor, popularly known as Clarus in the 1980s sitcom New Masquerade, has died.

The news of his passing was announced on Tuesday by fellow actor Tony Akposheri in an Instagram post.

Akposheri expressed shock and sadness, recalling their recent interactions and shared moments earlier in the year.

He said they had spent time together during the New Year, reflecting on life, memories, and future plans.

“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead,” he wrote.

“We spoke about life, about plans, about how far we had come. None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”

He described the late actor as more than a screen personality, praising his warmth, humour, and impact.

“You were more than a familiar face on screen. You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space,” he added.

Tributes have continued to pour in for Ofor, who gained national fame for his role as Clarus in New Masquerade, one of Nigeria’s most popular television comedy series aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

His portrayal of the character made him a household name and earned him lasting recognition in Nigerian entertainment history.

Details surrounding the cause of death have not yet been disclosed.
