In Lagos, Nigeria, on Monday, April 6, 2026, Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji attended a solemn service of songs held in honour of Chief Matthew Egwuenu, father of Ojy Okpe.

The event, which drew a distinguished gathering of public figures, was organised to celebrate the life of the late Egwuenu, a retired commissioner of police who died on February 6 at the age of 80.

Genevieve Nnaji was present to support Ojy Okpe, underscoring a strong personal bond amid the emotional atmosphere. Videos from the service surfaced on social media the following day, capturing moments of tribute and reflection.

Among other notable attendees were former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, businessman Tony Elumelu, and music artiste B-Red, highlighting the wide-reaching respect commanded by the late Egwuenu.

Family sources had earlier released details of the funeral arrangements, outlining a series of events to honour his legacy.

Following the Lagos service of songs, a vigil mass is scheduled for April 9 in Umukwata, Delta State.

The burial mass will take place on April 10, with interment at the family compound in Obionyeonicha, Delta State.
