Federal High Court adjourns Eezee Tee fraud trial to September 2025 as EFCC presses charges of forex malpractice and money laundering

Eezee Tee fraud trial has been adjourned to September 26, 2025, following Friday’s hearing at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke granted the adjournment to allow both parties more time to finalise a possible out-of-court settlement.

Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, widely known as Eezee Tee, and his company, Eezee Global Concepts Limited, are currently facing a seven-count amended charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The case, brought by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, involves allegations of foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering amounting to several hundred thousand dollars.

Initially arraigned before Justice Owoeye at the same court, the matter was subsequently reassigned to Justice Aneke for further proceedings.

On Friday, the prosecution, led by Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, presented its first witness, Mohammed Timta, marking the formal commencement of trial activities.

One of the key charges alleges that the defendant engaged in unauthorised foreign currency transactions without being a licensed dealer approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Such actions, the EFCC argues, are in direct violation of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act.

During the hearing, defence counsel Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, informed the court that negotiations were ongoing between both parties, and a settlement might be imminent.

He requested additional time to allow for a potential resolution, noting that in the absence of an agreement, the prosecution would continue with the full trial.

“We are close to reaching a settlement,” Ojukwu told the court, suggesting that the defence was exploring options to resolve the matter outside the courtroom.

Justice Aneke accepted the submissions and adjourned the case, which has attracted public interest due to Eezee Tee’s prominent role in Nigeria’s gospel music industry.

As a music promoter and former manager of celebrated gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, ThankGod’s involvement in this legal battle has drawn attention beyond legal circles.

With the next court date now fixed for late September 2025, observers await whether the **Eezee Tee fraud trial** will end in a negotiated agreement or proceed to full trial on its merits.
