Daddy Freeze opens up about losing his business and MC career after publicly criticising Nigerian pastors, revealing financial ruin and industry backlash

Speaking on the Leadership Podcast with Stephen Akintayo, Daddy Freeze recounted how his decision to take on influential church leaders through his Free the Sheeple movement led to the total collapse of his business ventures and the abrupt end of his once-flourishing career as a Master of Ceremonies (MC).

“When I came after the Nigerian pastors, at the initial stage, I lost 100% of my business. It got so bad for like two years,” Freeze said during the interview. “I used to MC and my rates were high  I used to charge ₦1.5 million when the dollar was ₦150.”

According to him, he earned up to $10,000 per MC engagement, securing multiple gigs annually that generated at least $60,000 from that line of work alone. However, since 2019, Freeze claims he has not booked a single MC job.

The broadcaster shared an example of a paid event that was cancelled after public backlash against his involvement. “After they paid upfront and the flier went viral, people said they were not going to attend the event.

The guy had to call and inform me, and when I told him that we had already agreed, he said if it is about the upfront payment, you can keep it,” he revealed.

Daddy Freeze, whose real name is Ifedayo Olarinde, has been a polarising figure in Nigerian media for years.

Through his Free the Sheeple campaign, he has repeatedly challenged the doctrines, financial practices, and lifestyles of prominent Nigerian pastors, accusing them of misleading congregants and enriching themselves at the expense of the poor.
