The actress addressed the issue on Friday, 10 July 2026, through a post on her Instagram page, where she reflected on the criticism she has faced both before and after her significant weight-loss transformation.

Badmus revealed that she had experienced body shaming as a plus-size woman and continued to receive negative comments even after losing almost half her body weight through a long-term health journey.

The actress said she moved from weighing 170kg five years ago to 83kg in 2026, describing the transformation as a demanding process that required discipline, consistency and personal sacrifice.

“Five years ago, I weighed 170KG. Today, in 2026, I weigh 83KG. That didn’t happen overnight. It took years of discipline, sacrifice, pain, consistency, tears, setbacks and choosing my health every single day,” she wrote.

The actress said the reaction to her physical changes had been difficult, particularly comments about her appearance after losing weight.

“What exactly do you want from me? When someone loses almost 90KG, it’s completely normal for the skin to change. Of course, my skin will adjust. I’m doing my best, taking care of myself, using collagen, staying healthy and embracing every stage of this transformation,” she said.

Badmus explained that ignoring online insults did not mean the comments had no emotional impact, stressing that public figures also experience hurt and vulnerability.

“Just because I don’t respond to the insults doesn’t mean they don’t hurt. It doesn’t mean I’m weak. It doesn’t mean I don’t have feelings. I’m human. Blood runs through my veins just like yours. Words have consequences,” she added.

The actress also appealed to Nigerians to show more compassion towards people dealing with personal changes, saying her experience had shown the impact of online judgment.

She noted that many of the negative comments came from women, urging people to respect different body journeys while encouraging healthier lifestyles.

The controversy has renewed conversations around online harassment, body image and the pressure public figures face when their personal transformations become a subject of public discussion.
