Nigerian singer Jaywon has publicly apologised to Ayra Starr after facing criticism for allegedly mocking her after the 67th Grammy nominations were announced.

Ayra Starr, despite a successful year, was not nominated for the prestigious award, which led to Jaywon’s social media post that many interpreted as a jab at the singer.

After the nominations were released, Jaywon shared a photo of himself with two Grammy awards, which sparked accusations of shade directed at Ayra Starr.

However, following the backlash, Jaywon has now offered a heartfelt apology. He took to social media to clarify that he holds Ayra Starr in high regard, acknowledging her talent and success in the music industry.

“I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has,” Jaywon wrote. “If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan.”

As a voting member of the Recording Academy, which organises the Grammy Awards, Jaywon’s influence in the music industry is notable.

His apology reflects a more supportive and constructive approach to his colleague’s career, even amidst competition.
