Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has shared a moment from her past, reflecting on her mother’s strong influence on her journey.

The entrepreneur, while launching her fragrance line on Tuesday, credited her mother for helping her become who she is today as she rained praises on her.

According to Toke, she was always at the bottom of her class, and she once got the beaten of her life when she tried playing smart by altering her report sheet.

She stated that whenever she was feeling ashamed and down, her mother was the only one who believed in her and would wake her up in the night, begging her to read.

Now, her story has changed as she has gone from being at the bottom of the class to launching her own business.

“Another incident that shaped my life, I was always at the bottom of my class. There was this time we were like 52 in the class, and I came 52, and a part of me thought I was smart, and I cleaned the 5 and left the 2. I was going home to show my parents that finally, after being bottom of the class, I came second, and when they looked at the report card, they flogged me.

“She didn’t spare my behind because she was frustrated. I remember when I was feeling ashamed and down, this was the same woman who believed in me and would wake me in the night, telling me to read. Mummy, I know I came last in class, but today, Mummy, I launched a perfume line”.

Her mother, who was present, almost broke down in tears as she expresses pride in her daughter.

She appreciated God that her efforts weren’t in vain over her daughter as she credited everything to God. “I thank God my efforts were not in vain; it’s the Lord’s doing”.

“Don’t ever compare me to anyone in this industry again!! Especially Wiz!! I’m a different breed! God’s baby,” May D boldly declared.

His statement has sparked significant attention, as it comes on the back of previous comments where the singer claimed that Wizkid wouldn’t have reached his current level of success if not for May D’s fallout with his former record label, Square Records.

May D suggested that the split held back his own career trajectory, and had he stayed with the label, he would have been on the same level as Wizkid and Davido.

May D initially rose to fame after signing with Square Records in 2011. However, his time with the label ended in August 2012 when it was officially announced that he was no longer part of the record company.

Despite the setback, May D has continued to build his career, maintaining his presence in the Nigerian music scene.

In his recent remarks, the singer made it clear that he sees himself as a “different breed,” and his musical journey is incomparable to those of others, including Wizkid.
