Judy Austin Yul Edochie message highlights family gratitude as the actress faces ₦1 billion defamation disputes involving Rita Edochie and her former husband

Nollywood actress Judy Austin sent a heartfelt public message to her husband, actor Yul Edochie, in Lagos on 19 August 2026, expressing gratitude for his love and care for their family as separate legal disputes involving Austin continue to attract public attention.

Austin shared the reflective message on Instagram, focusing on family, childhood and the importance of appreciating everyday moments.

The actress said watching her children grow had made her more conscious of how quickly family life changes, urging her followers to cherish seemingly ordinary moments with their loved ones.

“If we understand how fleeting life truly is then we will complain less and enjoy the little moments more,” Austin wrote.

She went on to describe kisses, hugs, laughter and expressions of love as priceless parts of family life before thanking God for what she described as her blessings.

Austin then directly addressed Yul Edochie, writing: “Thank you for Loving us the way you do my Love.”

The affectionate post comes at a particularly sensitive moment for the actress, whose personal life has again become the subject of intense public scrutiny following legal action against veteran actress Rita Edochie and Austin’s former husband, Emmanuel Obasi.

On 11 August, Austin filed a defamation suit against Rita Edochie at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, seeking ₦1 billion in damages. The suit also reportedly seeks a public retraction and apology, removal of the allegedly defamatory material and other court orders.

The legal action followed years of public disagreement surrounding Austin’s relationship with Yul Edochie and claims made about her previous marriage.

Rita Edochie responded forcefully after the lawsuit became public. Among other objections, she questioned Austin’s use of the name “Mrs Judith Yul-Edochie” in the court documents and challenged her to produce a marriage certificate carrying that name.

Rita also said that, in her view, the only person she recognised as “Mrs Yul Edochie” was May Yul-Edochie, Yul Edochie’s estranged first wife.

The dispute has since moved beyond social-media exchanges and into the courts, where the allegations and Austin’s claims for damages remain to be determined.

Austin is also involved in a separate legal dispute with Obasi. Reports indicate that the former husband is contesting the allegations and has publicly maintained that his efforts to see his children will not be stopped by the lawsuit.

Obasi has made allegations about Austin’s past relationship with Yul Edochie, while Austin has disputed his account and maintained that her previous marriage had ended before her relationship with Yul. The competing claims have not been established as facts by a court.

Against that backdrop, Austin’s latest Instagram message presented a notably different picture from the increasingly confrontational legal exchanges.

Rather than addressing the lawsuits directly, she centred her message on her children and her relationship with Yul, describing family affection as the “essence of life”.

The sentiment also echoes previous public tributes Austin has shared about Yul. In a 2025 Father’s Day message, she praised him as a devoted father and thanked him for the work he put into providing for their family.

Austin’s latest post therefore appears to underline the private family bond she continues to emphasise publicly, even as disputes surrounding her relationship and past marriage remain before the courts.

For now, the legal battles and the allegations surrounding them remain unresolved. Any claims made by the parties will ultimately have to be tested through the appropriate legal process rather than social-media exchanges.

Austin’s message, meanwhile, offered a softer and more personal moment amid the controversy, with the actress choosing to highlight gratitude, motherhood and her relationship with Yul rather than the increasingly heated public dispute.
