Nollywood star Kanayo O. Kanayo calls out Instagram over a sudden drop in his followers, urging Meta to treat content creators fairly

Nollywood veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo has called out Meta, the parent company of Instagram, over a mysterious and consistent drop in his followers on the platform.

In a video message shared via his Instagram page, the celebrated actor expressed frustration, stating that his follower count had been declining for months without any apparent reason.

He claimed his followers, once around 2.3 million, had fallen to 1.9 million — and hadn’t increased by even 1,000 in over seven months.

“It is that my followership has not added up to one thousand for seven to eight months? It’s a matter of concern because it’s happening to a lot of people,” Kanayo said.

The actor suggested that this issue wasn’t unique to him, pointing out that many other users and content creators had experienced similar problems.

He accused Instagram of unfair treatment and urged the platform to value its content creators, highlighting the mutual benefits for both the platform and its users.

“We are using a platform that we have no control over, and the way that they are treating us is very bad,” he continued.

“I’m calling on the owners of Instagram to treat us like content creators; it’s beneficial to you as well as it’s complementary beneficial to us.”

As of now, Meta and Instagram have not publicly responded to Kanayo’s claims.
