The Afrobeat singer and grandson of legendary Fela Kuti tied the knot with Inedoye at a civil ceremony in Lagos in November 2023.

Since then, their marriage has faced criticism from bigots accusing them of “mixing blood” due to their different ethnic backgrounds.

Reacting to a post on X by user @AdemolaOgudu, who labeled him a “foolish Yoruba man” for marrying an Igbo woman, Kuti rejected notions of ethnic superiority.

“Believing ethnic superiority/inferiority is justifiable is slave mentality,” he stated.

Kuti encouraged critics to study the teachings of Pan-African icons, including his great-grandmother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, his grandfather Fela Kuti, as well as Kwame Nkrumah and Thomas Sankara.

He stressed that Africa’s progress depends on unity across ethnic and cultural lines.
