Magixx shares the unexpected journey that led him to Mavin Records, revealing how Don Jazzy discovered him while he was seeking a manager

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Alexander Adelabu, popularly known as Magixx, has opened up about the unexpected series of events that led to him signing with the renowned Mavin Records.

In a recent interview with media personality Adesope, Magixx shared the story of how he became part of one of Nigeria’s most prestigious music labels, revealing that he wasn’t initially seeking a record deal at all.

Instead, Magixx was focused on finding a manager who could help him gain exposure and advance his music career. At that point, he was looking for someone who could help book shows and promote his talent, unaware that his search would lead him straight to Mavin Records’ founder, Don Jazzy.

“I reached out to someone that I needed a person who would manage me and help me because things were really tight at that time. He reached out to a couple of people, and that was how Don Jazzy happened.

I wasn’t even thinking about a record label. I was just thinking of someone that could put me on shows for the world to see my talent,” Magixx recalled.

This chance connection led to Don Jazzy reaching out to Magixx in September or October 2020, eventually offering him a contract. This marked a significant milestone in Magixx’s career as he became the last artist to join Mavin Records at the time.

The singer also shared that Mavin Records had plans to unveil Ayra Starr in September 2020, but due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, her unveiling was delayed until January 2021. This timing meant that Magixx’s debut with the label followed shortly thereafter.

Magixx’s rise in the Nigerian music scene has been a story of persistence, talent, and serendipity. His journey to Mavin Records is a testament to the power of remaining focused on one’s craft, even when the path ahead is unclear.
