President Bola Tinubu celebrates Nollywood icon Nkem Owoh on his 70th birthday, praising his lasting impact on Nigeria’s entertainment industry

Nkem Owoh 70th birthday celebrations drew national attention on Friday as President Bola Tinubu extended warm felicitations to the veteran Nollywood actor, comedian, and singer.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the film legend for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s entertainment industry, describing him as “a true cultural icon whose creativity has brought joy to millions.”

Widely known by fans as “Osuofia” — a nickname made famous by his comic roles in Ikuku 1 & 2 and Osuofia in London — Nkem Owoh has spent decades enchanting audiences with his unique humour and versatility.

The President lauded Owoh’s legacy, noting that his storytelling has showcased Nigeria’s culture to the world while inspiring generations of entertainers.

“Through his iconic roles, particularly as Osuofia, Mr Owoh has etched his name in the annals of our cultural history. His work has entertained and united communities through laughter and storytelling,” Tinubu said.

Born in 1958, Owoh remains one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures, earning numerous awards, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (2008) for Stronger Than Pain.
