Ronke Oshodi-Oke says she backs politicians for money, urging Nigerians not to attack her while opening up about family, health and Nollywood

Nollywood actress Ronke Ojo, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has defended her willingness to support politicians for financial gain, telling Nigerians on Sunday, August 23, 2026, that any political association she makes should be viewed as part of her effort to earn a living.

Oshodi-Oke made the remarks during an interview with African A-List published on YouTube, where she discussed politics, relationships, her health struggles and her long career in the Nigerian film industry.

The actress described Nigerian politics as “dirty” and said she preferred not to discuss the subject extensively.

She also stressed that her political associations should not dictate how Nigerians vote.

“Nigeria politics is dirt, so I do not want to talk about it. I am not saying you should not vote for whoever you want to vote for,” Oshodi-Oke said.

When asked whether she would accept money to support or endorse a political figure, the actress was direct about her position.

“If you see me behind any politician, anybody, just see it as if she is looking for something to put food on the table. Just leave, let her eat. Do not insult or drag me,” she said.

Her comments are likely to fuel debate over the relationship between Nigerian entertainers and political campaigns, particularly the practice of celebrities lending their popularity to political figures during election periods.

Oshodi-Oke’s position, however, was framed around personal livelihood rather than an attempt to influence Nigerians’ voting decisions.

The actress also offered a revealing account of her relationship with fellow Nollywood star Sotayo Gaga, saying the pair have not spoken for about five or six years following a disagreement.

Despite the prolonged estrangement, Oshodi-Oke recalled a gesture from Gaga during a difficult period in her life. After learning that Oshodi-Oke was ill, Gaga reportedly sent her ₦150,000.

“We hadn’t spoken in a long time. Not that we were at war; we just had a little disagreement,” she said.

Oshodi-Oke added that the two actresses now pass each other at social gatherings without exchanging greetings, despite Gaga’s earlier gesture of support.

“If we meet at a party, we walk past each other without even a greeting,” she said.

The veteran actress also reflected on her health challenges, marriage difficulties, motherhood and the demands of sustaining a career in Nollywood.

She said her experience with illness brought a significant change in her outlook on life and relationships.

Oshodi-Oke further revealed that her health struggles influenced her decision to join the Celestial Church of Christ.

She maintained that her religious choice was personal and did not mean she looked down on people who practise other faiths.
