Shawn Faqua Courtship Story reveals how the actor’s wife doubted his intentions before their marriage due to his unusual relationship boundaries

Dr Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe, wife of Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua, has shared a personal account of their courtship journey, revealing how the actor’s strict relationship boundaries and commitment to his Christian beliefs initially left her uncertain about his intentions.

In an interview, Maduekwe, popularly known as Akwa Ugoo, said the early stages of their relationship were marked by moments of confusion as she struggled to understand why Faqua maintained firm boundaries before marriage.

The story gained attention after Maduekwe explained that the actor insisted they would not engage in sexual relations before marriage and avoided situations that could compromise those values.

She recalled that Faqua declined to allow her visit his home alone during their courtship and said he wanted to seek spiritual guidance before agreeing to certain arrangements.

“When I first started dating him, he was like we can’t have sex till marriage. He also said I couldn’t come to his house because we’d be alone,” Maduekwe said.

She explained that his decisions initially made her suspicious because they were different from what she expected based on her previous relationship experiences.

According to Maduekwe, when she once needed accommodation because her hotel was fully booked, Faqua told her he needed to pray and seek direction before allowing her to stay at his home.

“One day, when my hotel was fully booked, I asked if I could stay over. He said he needed to ask the Holy Spirit first. I told my friends, ‘This guy is not honest. I know he’s hiding something’,” she recalled.

Over time, Maduekwe said she came to understand that Faqua’s actions were driven by personal convictions rather than secrecy, and the couple eventually progressed to marriage.

Faqua has previously described his marriage as a spiritually guided union, while the couple attracted public attention for their unique wedding ceremony, which was reported as Nigeria’s first train wedding.

Their story has drawn interest from fans who see their relationship as an example of patience, faith and commitment in modern courtship.
