Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Grammy-winning artist clarified what actually happened at Gomez’s private September wedding, where Swift was a guest.

“I definitely didn’t make it about me,” she said, addressing claims that she had joked about being left behind in the marriage race. “I made sure not to mention anything about my engagement.”

Instead, Swift said her wedding speech focused on the pair’s early friendship, referencing the fashion trends they embraced back in 2008. “I did some light teasing about the deep V-necks and colourful skinny jeans era,” she said with a laugh.

“But mostly, I talked about how happy I am for her and how wonderful it’s been to be part of her journey.”

The rumour mill had sparked after reports emerged claiming Swift playfully said Gomez had “beaten her to the altar.” But Swift firmly shut that down.

She also revealed she hadn’t informed fellow artist Ed Sheeran about her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. “He’s impossible to reach—he doesn’t use a phone, just email or FaceTime,” she explained.

The pop icon’s remarks seem aimed at cooling speculation and reinforcing that her speech at the wedding was about celebration, not competition.
