Uzor Arukwe shared the personal experience during an interview with Tope Olowoniyan, where he reflected on the challenges he faced shortly after starting a family.

The actor explained that he got married in August but lost his job in November of the same year, leaving him without a stable source of income during a major transition in his personal life.

According to Arukwe, the sudden change affected his finances significantly and forced him to become more disciplined about spending and planning.

“The same year that I settled down, I lost my job. I got married in August, and I lost my job in November. That happened, and my finances just went crazy,” he said.

The actor added that the situation became even more stressful after he was involved in a car accident during the same period.

“At that same period, I had an accident with my car. It was stupid, it was a mess,” Arukwe recalled.

The combination of unemployment, unexpected expenses and family obligations meant that he had to carefully manage his resources, especially with annual rent payments and other responsibilities approaching.

Arukwe said that while many people celebrated during the festive season, he often had to focus on financial planning rather than spending.

“My yearly rent starts in January, so when everyone is doing Detty December, I’m always calculating. I am not spending, I am not partying, I’m literally calculating stuff,” he explained.

The actor revealed that the arrival of his first daughter brought additional responsibilities, including school fees and other family needs, making financial planning even more important.

“My rent was due every January and when my first daughter came, school fees happened too. So, yes, my finances have been a mess for the longest,” he stated.

Despite the challenges, Arukwe’s experience highlights the financial pressures many families face when unexpected career changes occur, especially during major life milestones.

The actor, who has built a reputation through several Nollywood productions, said only a close circle of friends were aware of the extent of his financial struggles at the time.
