VeryDarkMan Bail Difficulty

Deji Adeyanju, lawyer to VeryDarkMan, reports challenges in obtaining bail documents from the EFCC despite the commission stating administrative bail was granted

Deji Adeyanju, the legal representative for social media personality and activist Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has expressed frustration over the difficulty his team is encountering in securing his client’s release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Earlier on Tuesday morning, the EFCC, through a statement by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, announced that VeryDarkMan had been granted administrative bail.

However, the commission clarified that Otse would remain in custody until he fulfills the stipulated bail conditions.

Oyewale stated that Otse was invited for questioning due to multiple petitions alleging serious financial crimes and was arrested after allegedly failing to honor repeated invitations from the EFCC.

Oyewale affirmed the EFCC’s lawful right to detain Otse under a valid remand order and reiterated that he would be released upon meeting all bail conditions.

“Bail granted VDM, social media bail, as we are yet to receive any bail document from the commission. We have made several repeated demands in this regard since yesterday, when we were informed about the decision to grant bail,” said Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan’s lawyer.

Responding to the EFCC’s statement, Deji Adeyanju took to his social media platforms to voice his concerns. He stated that his legal team has faced significant obstacles in accessing the necessary documents detailing the bail conditions for VeryDarkMan.

Adeyanju stressed that despite repeated efforts since yesterday, when they were informed about the bail decision, they have yet to receive any official bail document from the commission.

In its earlier statement, the EFCC addressed the circumstances surrounding VeryDarkMan’s arrest, refuting claims circulating on social media that it was in retaliation for his criticisms of the commission.

Oyewale maintained that the arrest was legal and based on serious allegations of financial malfeasance outlined in multiple petitions, which the commission could not ignore. He urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the EFCC to carry out its duties without interference.

The arrest of VeryDarkMan last Friday has triggered widespread public outcry, with numerous supporters and prominent figures, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, lawyers, and fans, calling for his release.

On Monday, protesters gathered at the GTB headquarters in Abuja to demand his freedom.
