Nollywood actress, Adunni Ade has reacted to the allegation of owing her late colleague and director, Murphy Afolabi, the sum of N250,000.

Adunni in a statement through her management on Tuesday debunked the reports of being indebted to the late Murphy.

Recall that Murphy Afolabi’s burial committee had on Monday, in a trending video, during the 8-day Fidau Prayer held in honour of the late actor in Lagos, called out Adunni to refund the money she owed the actor before his death.

“Adunni Ade please return the N250,000 that you are owing Late Murphy Afolabi.” the committee said in the video

The statement from Adunni’s management read: “On behalf of popular Nollywood Actor and Content Creator, the unassuming Adunni Adewale, we write to set the record straight regarding a clip making the rounds in which our she was called out by a Muslim Cleric with claims of her owing the late Murphy Afolabi. The allegation is false.

“Sometimes in July 2021, the late Mr. Murphy Afolabi reached out to me, requiring my services for a movie production. He appealed to me stating that it was a self funded production that he couldn’t afford my professional fee, but that he would need my moral support. I asked how many scenes and duration were expected of me on set. He said 10 scenes and that I would spend one day. He offered to fuel my car as an honorarium, which payment of N150,000 was made on 2nd of July 2021.

“Unfortunately, shortly before the commencement of the production, on 11 July 2021, I lost my younger brother and I contacted the actor a few days afterwards for his bank details for refund as I would be travelling to the United States for my brother’s funeral. But he insisted I hold on to the money while he figured out whether to move the shoot forward or contact me for another one.

“Mr. Murphy Afolabi contacted me on the 8 of October 2021 and said he wanted to start a new job soon and needed me to play the lead role for four days with the same amount of N150,000 which he had paid in July. And I respectfully declined and requested for his account details and refunded him the N150,000 on the same day. Proof of both payments are attached in this post.”

It would be recalled that Murphy Afolabi died on Sunday, 14th of May, 2023, after falling in his bathroom and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witness Details How Visa Flagged Naira Marley’s Credit Card

Published

on

The 10th prosecution witness in the trial of Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, Dein Whyte, an investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission revealed to Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, how Visa, a card payment platform, detected fraudulent transactions linked to one of the credit card details found on the singer’s device.

This was made known in a statement shared by the agency on their Facebook page on Friday.

The witness, Whyte, led by the prosecution counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, said, “As part of the findings from the investigation, forensic analysis revealed that malicious programmes used to illegally obtain credit card information were found on the device recovered from the defendant upon his arrest.” These programmes facilitated card non-present transactions.
The investigator also identified tools on the device that disguised the user’s active location when connected to the internet.

Whyte elaborated, saying, “Tools used to verify the validity, active state, and accuracy of credit card credentials, as well as the region of the issuer of that card, were discovered on the defendant’s device. The analysis further revealed the websites accessed on the defendant’s computer, including sites where credit card information is illegally traded.”

The witness disclosed that both the phone and laptop recovered from Naira Marley were registered with his credentials, name, and email address. Investigations revealed that the singer exchanged credit card details with other individuals. Notably, one card reported fraudulent usage by Visa. Whyte clarified that the card details on the defendant’s device did not belong to him and were not issued by any financial institution.

Under cross-examination by the defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, Whyte confirmed that a Visa investigation confirmed the card had been flagged for fraudulent transactions. However, Visa did not directly link the credit card fraud to the defendant’s device, emphasizing that Visa is a payment platform, not a telecommunication company.

Justice Oweibo adjourned the case to March 6 and 7, 2024, for the continuation of the trial.

Naira Marley is facing an 11-count charge, including conspiracy and credit card fraud, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
