Azeezat Shorunmu Sexual Harassment in Nollywood the actress reveals how scriptwriting helped her avoid exploitation and empowered her creative voice

 

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Shorunmu explained that her journey into scriptwriting became a vital shield against unwanted advances from some male producers.

“In the film industry, many fall victim to sexual harassment when they become desperate for fame, success, quick wealth; or when they fail to think creatively and positively about their careers,” she said.

Reflecting on her personal experience, the actress noted that her strong values and creativity helped her navigate the industry with confidence and independence.

“I escaped the advances and bullying of male producers by staying true to myself and my principles. It gave me a voice and a level of influence that allowed me to take more control over the roles I chose and the projects I worked on.”

Beyond her acting achievements, Shorunmu shared her deep passion for scriptwriting, particularly action-themed stories, describing the craft as a transformative outlet for expression and empowerment.

“Acting holds a special place in my creative journey. It has allowed me to push my creative boundaries and connect with others on a much deeper level,” she said.

Over the years, Shorunmu has built an impressive filmography, including Etan, Omo Eleso, Pase, Bioreni, Abiwapele, 1990, Our Family, Korikosun Esu, Orisa Eniwumide, Ere Oran, Baoku, and Eleni Ina, among others.
