He said the persistent teasing pushed him into a profoundly dark emotional space, at one point leading to thoughts of ending his life as he struggled to cope with societal perceptions and daily humiliation.

“I was constantly mocked by children in my neighbourhood. Even my siblings sometimes used the same hurtful names during arguments. The way people treated me pushed me into a very dark place,” Chinedu Ikedieze said.

Despite the hardship, Chinedu Ikedieze credited his mother with playing a pivotal and life-saving role during that period.

He said she consistently offered comfort, encouraged resilience, and urged him to focus on education as a pathway to a better future.

According to Chinedu Ikedieze, his mother recognised his physical limitations at the time and guided him away from comparisons with other boys, instead helping him build confidence through academic pursuits.
