Ini Edo appeals to NFVCB and Nigerians not to withdraw her Christmas film, insisting the content is respectful despite the controversial title

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ini Edo has appealed to the National Film and Video Censors Board and the public not to withdraw her new movie, ‘A Very Dirty Christmas,’ from cinemas.

In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page on Sunday night, Edo emphasised that the film does not ridicule Christianity and urged critics to view it before passing judgment.

She clarified that the controversy centres on the title, not the film’s content. “Please don’t pull my film.

Allow people to watch it first. If anyone watches it and says it degrades Christians or dishonours God, I will pull it myself,” Edo said.

The actress explained that the title was chosen without any intention to disrespect the Christian faith. “There is nothing dirty in the film. It is about family issues and hidden secrets,” she added.

Edo highlighted the financial impact of withdrawing the movie, noting that it was recently released nationwide and is showing in over 70 cinemas. “I collected money from investors. We have spent a lot on promotion. Pulling it now will affect us badly,” she said.

The actress confirmed that the NFVCB had asked her to modify the title and said she is willing to comply.

“They said we should change the title or the film will be pulled. I am a Christian myself. I don’t want issues with Christians. I will try to change the title. Just give us time. Please don’t pull the film,” Edo appealed.

She also apologised to anyone offended by the title, insisting there was no ill intent. “If the title is hurting anyone, I am sorry. That was never the plan,” she said.

The appeal follows complaints by the Christian Association of Nigeria, which described the title as offensive to the Christian faith and called for regulatory action.

The NFVCB responded, stating it had requested a title modification and noting that public concerns are central to film regulation, with the board retaining the authority to withdraw films in the public interest.
