Kanye West publishes a Wall Street Journal apology for anti-Semitic remarks, citing a 25-year-old brain injury as a factor behind his behaviour

American singer Kanye West has issued a public apology for his anti-Semitic remarks, nearly three years after his first apology was rejected by the Jewish organisation StopAntisemitism.

The full-page statement, titled “To Those I Have Hurt,” appeared in the print edition of the Wall Street Journal on Monday and was paid for by West’s Yeezy brand.

In the apology, West attributed his behaviour to a brain injury sustained in a car accident 25 years ago.

“25 years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain. No comprehensive scans were done at the time, neurological exams were limited. The possibility of frontal-lobe injury was never raised. It was properly diagnosed in 2023,” he said.

West explained that the undiagnosed injury contributed to serious mental health challenges, including a bipolar type-1 diagnosis, which he said influenced his past outbursts.

The apology comes after years of public scrutiny and backlash over comments that drew widespread condemnation and significant social media attention.
