Kola Oyewo illness setback as veteran Nollywood actor reveals prostate condition, surgery recovery, and reduced ability to take acting roles

Veteran Nollywood actor Chief Kola Oyewo has revealed in a conversation with filmmaker Kunle Afod in Lagos that declining health has forced him to turn down certain acting roles, marking a difficult phase in his long-standing career in the Nigerian film industry.

Kola Oyewo health challenges limitation was disclosed during an emotional interview in which the respected thespian reflected on how his mobility and strength have reduced significantly since undergoing surgery, affecting his ability to perform physically demanding roles on set.

Chief Kola Oyewo explained that when he was still physically active, he rarely missed film assignments and always delivered his best performance.

However, he noted that age and illness have combined to limit his professional capacity, adding that he remains grateful despite the challenges.

The veteran actor further revealed that he was once given a referral to travel to Akure for treatment but chose to return home due to uncertainty over who would care for him.

He said he later continued treatment under his family doctor, where he has been receiving medical attention.

Chief Kola Oyewo also recounted the early stages of his condition, stating that it began with frequent urination, which later developed into sleepless nights and distressing episodes.

According to him, medical tests eventually confirmed an enlarged prostate, a condition that has required ongoing care.

The revelation comes amid renewed attention on welfare conditions for ageing actors in Nollywood, following continued efforts by filmmaker Kunle Afod to support industry veterans through visits, donations, and public advocacy.

Afod’s recent visit to Chief Kola Oyewo and fellow veteran Peter Fatomilola has been widely acknowledged within the industry, with colleagues praising his consistent commitment to the wellbeing of elderly entertainers.

Over recent years, Kunle Afod has built a reputation for supporting ageing Nollywood stars, including fundraising efforts for Baba Ariyo and emotional visits to veterans such as Pa Tunbosun Odunsi, Lere Paimo and Charles Olumo, drawing public attention to the challenges faced by retired actors.
