The veteran Nollywood actress, in a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, explained her long absence from the screen, which spanned more than a decade. Her disappearance had puzzled fans and left social media users speculating about her whereabouts and well-being.

In a candid revelation, Moji confirmed that her blacklisting came as a result of rejecting sexual advances from influential film marketers. According to her, they conspired against her, effectively cutting off her career opportunities because she refused to compromise her values.

“Before now, marketers used to give producers money to work. But because I refused their sexual advances, they held a meeting among themselves and agreed not to call me for work,” she disclosed. Her voice, though calm, carried the weight of over ten years of professional exile and injustice.

Moji revealed that the exchange of sexual favours for movie roles is far more common than people realise. She alleged that even married actresses have taken part in such acts, often bringing their husbands to wait outside while they negotiated behind closed doors.

“I did not sleep with any of them because I can’t trade my body for films. It’s my principle. I know they will watch this interview. Many of those doing it will go with their husbands and have them wait outside while they go inside to meet marketers. I’m exposing their secrets now,” she said directly.

The Moji Afolayan blacklisting scandal now paints a clearer picture of how Nollywood’s golden faces are often chosen not solely on talent but through unethical gatekeeping. She added that many of these actresses became popular not through merit but through these behind-the-scenes dealings.

“Marketers made them stars. Their posters were all around. But I thank God that I stood with my dignity. That is what I am enjoying today,” she said. Despite the toll it took on her finances and visibility, she has no regrets about her decision. Her dignity and values, she insisted, came first.

She acknowledged that the punishment from the marketers was severe and did affect her livelihood. Still, she remains proud of her choice. “They denied me movie roles because I didn’t offer myself for sex. Although it affected my income and fame, but I cherish my body more than every other thing. Even my husband knows.”

Moji also noted a shift in how Nollywood operates today, with content creators having more independence through digital platforms. YouTube and other social media outlets have enabled producers and actors to bypass marketers entirely.

“They now know how it feels because they have made us social media friendly. We now pushed our movies on YouTube without any marketers,” she concluded. Her words carried the satisfaction of someone who endured injustice but eventually found a way to survive and speak out.

The Moji Afolayan blacklisting scandal has started to trend online as more viewers discover the harsh realities hidden behind Nollywood’s glamour. Her courage has sparked conversations around dignity, exploitation, and the true price of fame.
