Nigerian actor Deyemi Okanlawon has made his debut in Japan’s entertainment scene, partnering with NHK Japan and filming a sci-fi TV series, an experience he describes as the best of his life

Brilliant Nigerian actor and filmmaker Deyemi Okanlawon has officially transitioned to a new frontier in his career, making his debut in Japan’s vibrant entertainment industry.

Okanlawon, who expressed immense excitement about this international move, recently starred in a feature for one of Japan’s biggest networks, NHK Japan.

The ‘3 Working Days’ star embarked on this significant production partnership with NHK Japan after a visit to Tokyo with his family in March 2025, a decision he revealed at the time as a new chapter in his acting journey.

I just got back from filming a sci-fi television series in Japan… It was the best experience of my life. If there is anything you know about the Japanese, it is that they have the spirit of excellence.

Sharing his experience on featuring in a Japanese production, Okanlawon described it as one of the best experiences of his life. “I just got back from filming a sci-fi television series in Japan,” he revealed.

“They needed an African character, did their research, and called me on board. I was there for three months filming. It was the best experience of my life. If there is anything you know about the Japanese, it is that they have the spirit of excellence.”

This move underscores Okanlawon’s growing international appeal and versatility, as he delves into a different cultural and cinematic landscape.

His collaboration with NHK Japan highlights the increasing global recognition of Nigerian talent and the potential for cross-cultural entertainment ventures.
