The Yoruba thriller “Ipele,” directed by Foluke Daramola, premieres on September 12 on Apata, featuring a gripping story of redemption and moral dilemmas.

 

The Yoruba movie *Ipele* (Veil), directed by Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola, will debut on September 12.

Executive Producer Mr. Peter Ayeni announced that the film will be showcased on “Apata,” a leading Yoruba movie YouTube channel. *Ipele* promises to engage audiences with its intense storyline and a stellar cast.

The film, shot in Lagos, Nigeria, follows the story of a reckless young man who, after committing a serious crime by raping a young girl, turns his life around and becomes a Pastor.

However, his attempt to start anew is complicated when the ghosts of his past resurface, threatening his journey towards redemption.

The past challenges his newfound path and casts a shadow over his life, raising deep moral questions about guilt, forgiveness, and the inescapable consequences of one’s actions.

Ayeni described *Ipele* as a gripping thriller with a complex narrative of deceit, friendship, and redemption, exploring profound themes of moral reckoning and personal transformation.

Netflix releases official trailer for ‘House of Ga’a’

Giant streaming platform, Netflix has premiered the official trailer for Bolanle Austen-Peters’s long-anticipated film ‘House of Ga’a’ ahead of its July premiere.

The historical Nollywood thriller based on the life of the infamous Bashorun Ga’a launches on the streaming platform on July 26, 2024.

Bashorun Ga’a comes after the success of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a biopic about the life and times of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a renowned Nigerian activist and mother of Afrobeat Legend, Fela Kuti.

Directed and produced by Austen-Peters, a multiple award-winning movie director and producer. She is the founder and artistic director of BAP Productions and the arts and culture center, Terra Kulture, Lagos.

She has been described by CNN as the “woman pioneering theatre in Nigeria”, named one of the most influential women in Africa by Forbes Africa, and has been recognized with several awards for her contribution to the arts, with movies such as Man of God, Bling Lagosians, Collision Course amongst others.

Set in the 18th-century Oyo Empire, House of Ga’a is a story based on the ferocious and feared Bashorun Gaa who became more powerful than the kings that ruled over him. Power drunk he becomes a kingmaker himself presiding over who gets to rule and who is dethroned. House of Ga’a explores power, treachery, and a legacy left behind.

Austen-Peters first teased the project in May 2023 when it started filming. “Back on SET! Something special is brewing! Thank God,” she posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The film stars Femi Branch, Mike Afolarin, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Ibrahim Chatta, Dele Odule, Bimbo Manuel, Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Adebayo, Gabriel Afolayan, Jide Oyegbile, Seun Akindele, ⁠Yemi Blaq, Adeniyi Johnson, Muyiwa Ademola, Willam Benson, Gbenga Titiloye, and ⁠Kunle Coker.

Tiwa savage’s debut film “Water and Garri” Set for Premiere

”WATER and Garri,” Nollywood blockbuster featuring Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage in her first acting role, is set for premiere on May 10, its producers have said.

Nollytrailers reports that Meji Alabi, director of the film made the announcement on his Instagram page.

He wrote: “Always wanted to shoot a movie, so we did. D- excited to share that our new Film “Water & Garri” @WaterAndGarri Film is coming out on May 10th on @Primevideo.”

The highly anticipated movie produced by Jimi Adesanya is slated for premiere on Prime Video, a subscription video on-demand over-the-top (OTTP) streaming and rental service.

The star-studded movie features Tiwa Savage in her acting debut alongside other Nollywood actors, including Jemima Osunde, Mike Afolarin, and Andrew Bunting.

“Water and Garri” is inspired by Tiwa Savage’s second EP song of same title that was released in 2021.

In the five-track EP, the singer explores themes of love, identity and self-discovery, all of which appear in the anticipated film.

According to the producers, the plot of “Water and Garri” follows the tale of Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer with a budding career in the United States.

She, however, returned to her native home after 10 years following a family bereavement.

Back at home, things have changed, violence escalated while tension is high everywhere.

As Aisha reconnects with her family, she must learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind.

The intrigues that follow is what make “Water and Garri” a must- watch for moviegoers.
