Tiwa savage’s debut film “Water and Garri” Set for Premiere

”WATER and Garri,” Nollywood blockbuster featuring Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage in her first acting role, is set for premiere on May 10, its producers have said.

Nollytrailers reports that Meji Alabi, director of the film made the announcement on his Instagram page.

He wrote: “Always wanted to shoot a movie, so we did. D- excited to share that our new Film “Water & Garri” @WaterAndGarri Film is coming out on May 10th on @Primevideo.”

The highly anticipated movie produced by Jimi Adesanya is slated for premiere on Prime Video, a subscription video on-demand over-the-top (OTTP) streaming and rental service.

The star-studded movie features Tiwa Savage in her acting debut alongside other Nollywood actors, including Jemima Osunde, Mike Afolarin, and Andrew Bunting.

“Water and Garri” is inspired by Tiwa Savage’s second EP song of same title that was released in 2021.

In the five-track EP, the singer explores themes of love, identity and self-discovery, all of which appear in the anticipated film.

According to the producers, the plot of “Water and Garri” follows the tale of Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer with a budding career in the United States.

She, however, returned to her native home after 10 years following a family bereavement.

Back at home, things have changed, violence escalated while tension is high everywhere.

As Aisha reconnects with her family, she must learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind.

The intrigues that follow is what make “Water and Garri” a must- watch for moviegoers.

‘Inspired by the spirit of Lagos’: Disney releases trailer for Afro-futurist animation Iwájú

In Disney’s upcoming animated show, Iwájú, nothing is what it seems.

The limited series is set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria and tells the coming-of-age story of Tola and her best friend, Kole, according to a series description.

Together, “they discover the secrets and dangers hidden in their different worlds”, the description states.

The series is set to be made available on Disney+ from 28 February.

Iwájú is produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and Kugali Media, which is an entertainment company “focused on telling stories inspired by African Culture”, according to their website.

Their stories “respect the history, embrace the present and imagine the future of Africa”, the website states. Part of their core values is also supporting African creators.

The show’s description reads: “Kugali filmmakers -including director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, production designer Hamid Ibrahim and cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku – take viewers on a unique journey into the world of Iwájú, bursting with unique visual elements and technological advancements inspired by the spirit of Lagos.”

Iwájú is part of a larger wave of Afro-futurist animation delivered by major studios, including shows like Kiya and the Kimoja Heroes, Supa Team 4 and Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire.

Anikulapo’ Returns Bigger, Bolder in ‘Rise of the Spectre

Trailer for ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre’, a spinoff of the hugely successful 2022 period piece, ‘Anikulapo’, debuted last Tuesday. This followed the official poster unveiled days earlier, by the producer/ director, Kunle Afolayan, to the delight of Nollywood buffs online.

The six-part epic series is primed for release soon. Viewers will get to continue the intriguing and fascinating story of Saro and Queen Arolake. The original movie tells the story of Saro, who arrived in Oyo as a stranger and a traditional textile weaver.

Saro and Arolake are caught in a forbidden romance as she is an unhappy wife to the King. The two eloped and Saro becomes a man of influence after being saved from death by a mysterious bird. Soon, the lovers are torn apart by Saro’s betrayal.

It ends with Arolake disappearing after destroying what made Saro powerful. While in ‘Anikulapo: Rise of The Spectre’, in a race against time to avoid a dismal fate, traveler Saro returns to the Oyo Kingdom with orders to complete a nearly impossible task.

With Kunle Remi returning as Saro and Bimbo Ademoye as Rolake, the lovers-turned-foes are joined by a unique pack of Nollywood veterans and stars such as Sola Sobowale, Jide Kosoko, Lincoln Owo Ogunde, Taiwo Hassan, Gabriel Afolayan, Adewale Elesho, Uzee Usman and Lateef Adedimeji.

Other fan favorite and exciting new cast members include Adebayo Salami, Moji Afolayan, Aisha Lawal, Adeniyi Johnson, Funky Mallam, Sokoto Alabgedeorun, Ropo Ewenla, Olayiwola Razaq Olasunkanmi, Kayode Aderupoko, Damilola Ogunsi, Oyindamola Sanni, Sunday Omobolanle, Sisi Quadri and Titi Kuti.

The much anticipated ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre’ was solely shot at the Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Film village in Oyo with a cast and crew of 600 people. Upon its debut in March, the series will be available for streaming in 190 countries.
