Nigerian fashion designer Toyin Lawani opens up about her paralysis ordeal, revealing a journey of pain, perseverance, and hope to inspire others


Toyin Lawani has revealed her harrowing experience with paralysis, offering a raw and inspiring account of resilience and recovery that has touched many fans and followers.

The celebrated Nigerian fashion designer took to Instagram on Monday to reflect on a chapter of her life marked by pain and immobility.

Lawani disclosed that she had once been bedridden for six months, a period during which movement felt impossible and hope was often tested.

“From paralysis to perseverance, while the pain can feel everlasting, quitting is worse,” she wrote. “Every lift, every stretch, every rep, every smile comes with pain I never thought I’d endure… Yet, it’s in these moments that I find strength in perseverance and resilience.”

Toyin Lawani spoke openly about wearing a body brace and the physical and emotional toll of her condition. Despite the severity of her ordeal, she insisted that she refused to be defined by it.

Her message was clear: healing may be slow, but determination can triumph over even the most crippling setbacks.

“To anyone going through pain right now,” she added, “you have to fight it. Don’t let it dictate your life to you. Show out and show up when you need to. Progress may be slow, but it’s progress nonetheless.”
