Uti Nwachukwu tribute to Alex Ekubo reveals emotional memories and deep grief following the Nollywood actor’s death

Nollywood actor and former Big Brother Naija star Uti Nwachukwu has shared a deeply emotional tribute to late actor Alex Ekubo, describing the devastating pain of losing one of his closest friends in the entertainment industry.

Uti Nwachukwu posted the heartfelt message on social media on Tuesday following reports that Alex Ekubo died on Monday, May 11, at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

The family of the late actor confirmed in a statement that Alex Ekubo passed away at Evercare Hospital after what they described as a brief but courageous fight with cancer.

In the moving tribute, Uti Nwachukwu said he was struggling to process the painful reality of the actor’s death, admitting that he felt angry, drained, confused and heartbroken.

“You were my best friend for years,” Uti Nwachukwu wrote. “I never thought I’d ever have to type these words, brother.”

The actor reflected on their long-standing friendship, recalling years of shared experiences, travels, celebrations and private moments that strengthened their bond beyond the spotlight.

According to Uti Nwachukwu, Alex Ekubo endured constant criticism and online bullying but remained graceful and resilient throughout.

“They bullied you consistently, yet you still stayed strong and rose above their unkindness,” he wrote. “Gallant.”

Uti Nwachukwu revealed that he had struggled to contain his emotions and reactions toward critics but reminded himself that Alex Ekubo always preferred peace over conflict.

The emotional tribute also highlighted the late actor’s vibrant personality, signature smile and the brotherhood they shared over the years.

“We have too many memories that I can’t even begin to mention,” Uti Nwachukwu added. “Nobody will ever understand the brotherhood we shared.”

The actor said he was still finding it difficult to accept the loss and repeatedly stressed that he was “not okay” following the tragic news.

Alex Ekubo’s death has continued to trigger emotional reactions across Nollywood, with colleagues, fans and friends remembering him for his talent, calm nature and kindness.

The late actor had largely stayed away from social media in recent months, leading to speculation and concern among fans before news of his illness and death emerged publicly.
