Falz recounted how his legal career often intersected with his musical aspirations. “There was a time I was in court, living a double life as a lawyer by day and rapper by night,” he shared.

One particular moment stood out for Falz when a judge recognised him during a court session. “I announced my appearance:

‘With profound respect, my lord, the name is Folarin Falana, appearing for the plaintiff.’ The judge lowered his glasses and said, ‘Counsel, are you not the one doing something else on the side?’”

The rapper explained that his situation was complicated by professional conduct rules within the legal field, which discourage practitioners from engaging in other activities.

“There is an unspoken rule of professional conduct within legal practice where you are not supposed to do other things,” Falz said.

Despite these challenges, Falz successfully transitioned into a full-time music career, becoming one of Nigeria’s most beloved artists.

His story resonates with many who balance traditional careers with creative pursuits, proving that passion and determination can help overcome societal and professional barriers.

Falz’s candid recollections shed light on his journey from courtroom to concert stage, inspiring those striving to follow their unique paths.
