The 45-year-old singer made the disclosure in a recent video shared via his TikTok page, saying the gesture would be in honour of his father, who bears the same traditional mark.

“By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday,” 9ice said confidently. “A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but you will see.”

The Gongo Aso crooner, who hails from Ogbomosho in Oyo State, is renowned for his proverb-laden lyrics and his mastery of the Yoruba language, which has become a defining element of his music.

In an earlier interview with TV host Nancy Isime in August 2025, 9ice revealed that he is a traditional worshipper.

He recounted how, during a difficult period when he reportedly suffered a “spiritual attack” that left him vomiting blood for six months, he sought help from an Ifa priest and eventually recovered.

Reflecting on that experience, the artist said he regretted not embracing traditional beliefs earlier in life, noting that the encounter deepened his appreciation for Yoruba spirituality and culture.

Now, his decision to get a tribal mark at 50 is being viewed by many fans as a symbolic act of heritage, courage, and identity.
