As the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) approaches its milestone 10th edition, Africa Magic, in collaboration with Multichoice Nigeria, invites African filmmakers to submit their works for consideration. The prestigious awards ceremony has been celebrating outstanding achievements in the African film industry since 2013 and will honor the best talents in a grand ceremony later this year.

The call for submissions is open to all African filmmakers, urging them to submit movies and films publicly exhibited or broadcast between December 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023, for this year’s edition. The entry portal opens on January 15, 2024, and closes on February 14, 2024. Eligible works include films aired in cinemas or otherwise, made-for-television movies, and television series.

Head of Content and Channels West Africa at MultiChoice, Dr. Busola Tejumola, expressed Africa Magic’s commitment to spotlighting authentic African stories over the past decade. She announced a bold initiative for the 10th edition, aiming to reevaluate award categories to align with global trends and benchmarks. This involves retiring specific categories, streamlining others, and revisiting the voting and non-voting classifications.

The tenth edition will feature 27 categories, including 16 non-voting, 9 audience voting, and 2 Recognition Awards – Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards. The jury, comprising experienced filmmakers from across the continent, will determine winners in the 16 non-voting categories. Deloitte will audit the judging process and verify voting results.

The non-voting categories cover various aspects of filmmaking, such as Best Lead Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Director, Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Best Writing in a Movie and TV Series, Best Movie and TV Series, Best Short Film, Best Documentary, and Best Sound Design, Editing, and Makeup.

Public voting will determine winners in categories like Best Scripted and Unscripted Africa Magic Original, Best Digital Content Creator, Best Indigenous Language (West, East, and Southern Africa), Best Multichoice Talent Factory Film, and Best Indigenous Africa Magic Original.

Dr. Busola Tejumola emphasized the AMVCAs’ commitment to celebrating incredible talent in the African film and television industry. Filmmakers can submit their entries online through the official submission portal: Africa Magic AMVCA Submissions.

The tenth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is presented by Africa Magic in association with MultiChoice, with Amstel Malta as the headline sponsor. The awards ceremony continues to be a platform for recognizing and applauding the remarkable work within the African entertainment industry.
