Bolaji Ogunmola movies form her retirement plan. The Nollywood actress says she owns 100 films now and wants a catalogue of 1,000

Nollywood actress and producer Bolaji Ogunmola, the 34-year-old Lagos-born performer, said her retirement plan is to own 1,000 Bolaji Ogunmola movies and treat that catalogue as a long-term asset.

Bolaji Ogunmola, who also runs The Ogunmola Company, said she already owns 100 films.

She argued that a major buyer would have to pay at least 1 million dollars for that slate. “My retirement plan is to own 1,000 movies. I currently own 100, and if a big company wants to buy those 100 movies, they’d have to pay at least $1 million. I’m building my retirement fund through movies,” she said.

The claim places ownership, not only acting fees, at the centre of her later-life income.

Bolaji Ogunmola has spoken before about investing beyond screen work, saying popularity can fade and that performers should position other sources of money while they are still working.

She began professionally around 2012 with Okon Goes to School, trained at Royal Arts Academy in Lagos, and later won Revelation of the Year at the 2020 Best of Nollywood Awards.

Her credits include Tough Love, Sobi’s Mystic, Ajosepo, Japa and the 2025 cinema title Gingerrr, which she also helped produce.

Online reaction to the 1,000-film target was mixed. Some users doubted the commercial value of a large YouTube-heavy catalogue and questioned whether 100 titles would command 1 million dollars.

Those figures have not been independently verified. What is clear is her stated method: keep adding titles she controls so the library can still earn after she steps back from acting.

Nollywood’s shift toward cinema, streaming and rights sales has made catalogues more valuable for some producers and less so for others, depending on quality, distribution and who holds the rights. Bolaji Ogunmola is betting that scale of ownership will be her cushion.
