Bovi Ugboma against beating children

Bovi Ugboma speaks out against beating children, urging parents to find better ways to correct behaviour and criticising school punishments.

Nigerian stand-up comedian Bovi Ugboma has publicly stated his opposition to the practice of beating children as a form of correction.

In a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, Bovi expressed his firm belief that physical punishment is not an effective method for guiding children, regardless of their behaviour.

He shared his concerns, urging parents and guardians to reconsider the approach.

“I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be. When you hit a kid, are you really trying to correct them or are you frustrated?” Bovi said, highlighting the potential negative impact of corporal punishment on a child’s well-being.

The comedian also extended his criticism to the practice of senior students punishing junior students in schools, particularly in primary and secondary schools.

He stated that no child should be given authority over another in the name of being a ‘senior student’, emphasising that such practices should be stopped.

“No child should be given authority over another child in the name of ‘senior student’. It really has to stop,” Bovi declared, urging for a more constructive and supportive environment for students.

Bovi’s comments add to an ongoing conversation around alternative methods of discipline and the importance of positive reinforcement in raising children.

His stance calls for greater understanding and empathy towards children, advocating for guidance that nurtures their development rather than instilling fear.
