Tacha Akide reveals she relocated to the UK due to low pay in Nigeria’s influencer industry, but remains open to lucrative local deals.
Tacha Akide, the dynamic former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, has opened up about her decision to relocate to the United Kingdom, citing dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s influencer industry and its lack of financial rewards.
In a recent interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, Tacha explained that while she has “conquered the Nigerian market,” the income from influencing in Nigeria no longer aligns with her lifestyle, prompting her to make the bold move abroad.
“I have conquered the Nigerian market,” Tacha stated, acknowledging her success in the industry. However, she also made it clear that relocating to the UK does not mean she is turning her back on Nigeria entirely.
“Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean I’m not going to do Nigerian deals. If the offer is good, why not?”
The influencer went on to share her frustrations about the low pay for influencers in Nigeria, revealing that the amount she would have once considered a substantial fee no longer meets her needs.
“The influencing scene in Nigeria looks so beautiful, but behind the scenes, it’s not as beautiful as it seems because the money is poor,” she explained.
Tacha elaborated on the specifics of her dissatisfaction: “Someone would pay you N6 million, that’s around $3,000, for you to influence for six months and post two videos a month.
The fee was the same when I left the Big Brother Naija show in 2019, but it made sense then. At least, you could book a plane ticket with it. But right now, $3,000 is nothing.
N6 million seems good, but when you have to convert it to dollars, travel abroad, and spend money to look good, there’s nothing left.”
Since rising to fame on BBNaija in 2019, Tacha has expanded her brand beyond influencing, venturing into fashion and sports. She recently launched Tacha FC, a football club, further solidifying her entrepreneurial spirit.
Tacha’s move to the UK highlights the challenges faced by influencers in Nigeria, where the industry’s financial prospects appear to be lagging behind the growing global demands of content creators.
However, her success across multiple industries continues to inspire many, as she adapts to new opportunities both locally and internationally.
