The Kano State Censors Board (KSCB) will now consider the renewal of licenses of film and entertainment-related practitioners in the state, as opposed to an outright revocation previously announced by the board.

This information is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), Al-Amin Ciroma.

The statement quotes the National President of MOPPAN, Ahmad Sarari, as saying that it is in the best interest of the board not to revoke licenses of stakeholders in Kannywood, but instead to consider the renewal of licenses and other related matters in order to foster a workable and ongoing relationship with players in the industry.

It adds that federal and state laws should work in harmony and not contradict each other.

Recall that TCN had reported how the Executive Secretary of the KSCB, Abba el-Mustapha, announced the withdrawal of the operational licenses of all actors and actresses, including musicians, directors, and producers in Kannywood, in an effort to sanitize the industry and ensure proper documentation.

“The decision also affects all the singers and other entertainers in the Kannywood industry; they must renew their licenses, and we are going to weed out the bad eggs among them,” El-Mustapha had announced on Freedom Radio on Saturday.
