Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw slams age-shaming in a viral video, calling ageing a gift and urging society to respect and celebrate older individuals

In a video shared on social media, Henshaw expressed her disappointment at how some individuals, especially young men, use age to belittle others. She argued that such behaviour reflects ignorance rather than wit.

“It is utterly incredulous and laughable that the first thing out of people’s mouths, especially those younger than you, is to call you old as an insult,” she said. “Do you people want to die young?”

Henshaw, known for her resilience, activism, and long-standing contributions to Nigerian cinema, declared that she embraces her age with pride. She described ageing as a gift and a privilege, not something to be mocked or hidden.

“You haven’t been to that age,” she said. “So why do you think you can dictate to anyone older than you how they should dress or behave?”

The actress criticised societal expectations that older people should suppress their individuality. She urged fans and critics alike to embrace authenticity rather than conform to external pressures.

“Nobody can shame me. On anything. That’s the truth,” Henshaw said, standing firm against cyberbullies who attempt to silence or ridicule her.

She further challenged the broader societal construct that allows people to assign value to others based on age or appearance.

“Society is not a ghost,” she added. “It’s made up of all of us. Who made you the judge, jury, or standard for anyone’s life?”

In her closing remarks, Henshaw encouraged her audience to live boldly and unapologetically. “Stand in your truth. Stand in all of your awesomeness, your wholeness, your power. You are created differently, and that is your superpower.”
