Kizz Daniel songwriting controversy

Kizz Daniel praises Runtown as the only person to ever write a song for him, daring anyone else to prove otherwise or he quits music.

Afrobeats star Kizz Daniel has issued a bold challenge, vowing to quit music if anyone other than Runtown claims to have written a song for him.

The singer, known for hits like *Buga* and *Cough (Odo)*, took to X (formerly Twitter) to heap praise on his colleague Runtown for being the first and only person to write a song for him.

“For the first time in my life, person write song for me and na Runtown… Sound God is not human,” he tweeted.

This declaration sparked debate when an X user, @KTwinBlog, questioned its validity. “For the first… you sure?” the user commented.

In a fiery response, Kizz Daniel wrote, *“Make any mofo come out say dem write for me I go stop music right now.”*

The conversation sheds light on a lingering issue in Nigeria’s music industry, where the use of songwriters often carries a stigma.

Unlike in global music industries where songwriters play a celebrated role, Nigerian fans sometimes perceive artists who collaborate with writers as less talented.

High-profile artists like Davido have faced backlash for openly acknowledging the contributions of songwriters to their music.

In contrast, Kizz Daniel’s declaration reaffirms his commitment to being recognised as an independent creative force in his craft.

The discourse continues to highlight the evolving dynamics of songwriting in Nigerian music, challenging the traditional expectations placed on artists.
