Richard Mofe-Damijo Reflects on Life at 65, sharing why gratitude, healthy living and a positive mindset keep him feeling youthful

Speaking during a recent episode of The Morayo Show, Richard Mofe-Damijo said reaching 65 carries special significance because neither of his parents lived to celebrate their 60th birthdays.

The acclaimed actor said the experience has strengthened his appreciation for every new day.

“Being 65, I feel like I am living an extra time right now. My parents didn’t make 60. My life is one of gratitude. I’m happy to be alive and Nigerian at this moment where more people are self-employed than ever in the world,” Richard Mofe-Damijo said.

The moment also offered insight into the lifestyle habits that have helped the actor maintain his youthful appearance and vibrant energy throughout a career spanning several decades.

Richard Mofe-Damijo credited healthy eating, regular exercise and a positive outlook for his enduring vitality. However, the award-winning actor said his greatest motivation comes from refusing to embrace the limitations often associated with ageing.

“I eat right and exercise. But there is something that I abide by which was said by another older person: the only way for an old person to stay young is to never let the old person in,” he said.

The actor added that he continues to enjoy expressing himself through fashion despite playful criticism from his eldest son, now 43 years old.

“I could have been dressing like an old person but I maintain classy fashion. My eldest child is 43, and till today, he still looks at me whenever I dress and just hiss. But I’m not giving up now. There’s no way I’m going to give up,” Richard Mofe-Damijo said.

The light-hearted family anecdote provided a warm glimpse into the actor’s personality, reflecting the confidence and humour that have made him one of Nigeria’s most admired entertainers.

Richard Mofe-Damijo remains one of Nollywood’s most influential figures, with a career that has spanned acting, television presenting, journalism and public service.

A former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, the celebrated actor has earned numerous honours and continues to feature prominently in major film and television productions.
