Nigerian rapper OdumoduBlvck clinched the highly coveted ‘Next Rated’ award at the 17th Headies in Lagos, sharing a touching moment with his mother on stage

Rapper OdumoduBlvck emerged victorious in the ‘Next Rated’ category at the 17th edition of the prestigious Headies Awards. The ceremony, themed “Back to Base,” was held on Sunday at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, marking a significant return to Nigeria after two years in the United States.

The ‘Next Rated’ award is arguably the most sought-after recognition for emerging talents in the Nigerian music industry.

In a moving highlight of the evening, OdumoduBlvck brought his mother and entire crew on stage to share in his triumph. He recounted his mother’s journey, revealing she gave birth to him in her late thirties and always believed in his destined greatness.

Overwhelmed with emotion, he dedicated the award to his mother, emphasizing their special bond. The audience responded with thunderous applause as his mother beamed with pride alongside his team.

The “Back to Base” theme underscored the importance of cultural identity and innovation within the African music scene. The event was graced by numerous stars, including the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside top industry figures and celebrities.

Other notable winners at the 17th Headies included Davido (Artiste of the Year), Rema (Afrobeats Album of the Year for “HEIS”), Liya (Best Vocal Performance (Female)), Lojay (Best Vocal Performance (Male)), and Zerry DL (Rookie of the Year). Late rapper Mohbad was honoured posthumously, and KCEE received a Special Recognition Award.

Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and his wife, Priscilla Ojo, also made their first public appearance as a married couple at the event, adding to the evening’s memorable moments.
