The video, which surfaced online earlier this week, captured Nollywood actress Angela Okorie jogging outdoors while being trailed by uniformed officers carrying rifles.

While the footage initially drew attention to the actress, public discourse quickly turned to the conduct of the escorting policemen.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, strongly condemned the officers’ actions.

He described their conduct as “inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force.”

Adejobi confirmed that the police have commenced a full investigation to determine the context of the video and identify all officers involved. He further stated that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken based on the findings of the internal review.

“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force,” the statement read.

While reports suggest the footage may be from behind the scenes of “Queens of Guns,” a recent project promoted by Okorie, the Force maintained that regardless of the setting, the behaviour exhibited falls short of the institution’s expectations.

“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi said.

The incident has ignited a firestorm of criticism on social media, where users expressed a mix of outrage, sarcasm, and concern over what they described as misuse of state security resources.

@thebishopoflagos mocked, “Una get standard? Smh,” while @issyluv added, “They are private citizens, they should be able to hire the services of private security… Police officers are attached to just anyone as long as they can cough up change to NPF.”

Others expressed frustration with the Force’s priorities. @wf\_iscobossy commented, “Focus on Benue killings first,” while @dassa said, “Una don leave Benue killings come focus on Angela.”

Despite the backlash, some defended the officers’ presence, suggesting the scene might have been misunderstood. @mattizcomedy wrote, “I really do not see anything wrong with the police men jogging with her.”

Angela Okorie has yet to make any public statement in response to the controversy.

As the investigation unfolds, the Nigeria Police has assured the public that its internal processes are active and disciplinary steps will follow in line with established procedures.
