Showmax’s Hit Telenovela, Wura, Returns For a Second Season This December
The highly anticipated second season of the Showmax Original telenovela Wura will premiere on Monday, 4 December 2023, with four new episodes every week from Monday to Thursday.
Following a successful first season that garnered a massive fan base, the telenovela is back and promises more intrigue, drama, suspense and scandalous moments.
In the trailer for Season 2, Fola seeks forgiveness from Dimeji and Paulina, but Paulina is not willing to forgive him even though Dimeji is trying to see reason. Meanwhile, Kanyin’s obsession with ending Wura has forced her into even more desperate actions. This time around, it’s something she can’t recover from as Wura has evidence that can keep her away for good.
Wura is the Nigerian adaptation of the hit South African 1Magic telenovela The River, which scooped an International Emmy nomination for Best Telenovela. Wura follows the lives of characters bonded and divided by the discovery of gold in Iperindo, a small community in Osun state, where the story is set. The show’s protagonist, the enigmatic Wura-Amoo Adeleke, is a woman with two sides: a perfect wife and a loving mother on one side and a ruthless Chief Executive Officer of the fictional Frontline Gold Mine on the other. Her unrelenting pursuit of success knows no bounds, making her the ultimate Iron Lady.
The first season captured the hearts of audiences as Showmax’s first and longest-running Nigerian telenovela, with gripping episodes that earned the lead cast and titular character, Scarlet Gomez, a nomination for Best Actress in a Drama, Movie, or TV Series at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) and for Acting at the 17th edition of The Future Awards Africa Awards.
“Viewers can expect a rich tapestry of character development, as the major characters navigate through intense situations, make tough choices, and evolve in response to the ever-changing circumstances,” says Rogers Ofime, executive producer on the upcoming season. “Season 2 of Wura has been a labour of love for the entire team. We’ve poured our hearts and souls into creating a telenovela that will keep audiences at the edge of their seats, just as they were in Season 1. We can’t wait to share the next chapter of Wura’s journey with our dedicated viewers.”
The ensemble cast of Wura features a mix of Nollywood veterans and rising stars, with Scarlet Gomez as Wura Amoo-Adeleke. Yomi Fash-Lanso takes on the role of Anthony Amoo-Adeleke, and Carol King adds depth to the series as Grace Adeleke. The show also stars Ray Adeka, Iremide Adeoye, Ego Iheanacho, Martha Ehinome, and Lanre Adediwura.

Season 1 began with Pa-Kuti’s (Ropo Ewenla) discovery of gold, a secret he entrusted only to Wura (Scarlet Gomez), whose mine was running dry – or so it appeared. However, Wura’s thirst for power led her to murder Pa-Kuti, making it look like an accident. Little did she know that Pa-Kuti had secretly written a letter to his daughter, Tumi (Martha Ehinome), revealing the truth about his discovery. Clues began to point toward Wura as the culprit, but she cunningly eluded the clutches of the law. Throughout the season, she continued to eliminate anyone who posed a threat to her as her list of adversaries grew.
In the countdown to the second season, the burning question is whether Wura will continue her winning streak or if her luck will eventually run dry. Will her reign persist, or will justice catch up with her?
Wura Season 2 promises to be an even greater rollercoaster of emotions and reiterates Showmax’s efforts in bringing Nigerian stories to the screen and expanding its library of original content.

Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has questioned the authenticity of an interim order issued by the Lagos State High Court on 2 September 2026, restraining her from publishing photographs of Priscilla Ojo’s one-year-old son, Rakeem Mkambala, and from posting editorials concerning the family on specified social media platforms.
Anjorin raised the issue during an Instagram Live session on Friday, 4 September, after Priscilla shared a copy of the court order online.
The actress argued that publicising court documents before formally serving the respondent undermines the case.
“Your case na dead on arrival. If you post court letter on any platform before serving person wey you wan go serve, that court case na fake court case,” Anjorin said during the live session.
Her comments came shortly after the High Court of Lagos State granted an ex parte application brought by Priscilla, her husband, Tanzanian singer Juma Mussa Mkambala, and their son, Rakeem.
Justice Yetunde Adesanya issued the interim order in Suit No. LD/ADR/6646/2026.
The order restrains Anjorin, as well as people acting under her authority, from publishing, posting, circulating, uploading or broadcasting photographs of Rakeem on specified social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and TikTok.
The court also directed Anjorin to cease publishing or broadcasting editorials concerning the applicants on the platforms covered by the order.
An ex parte order is made at an interim stage without the respondent being heard. The order is therefore not a final determination of the dispute and remains subject to further proceedings.
Priscilla shared the certified copy of the order on her Instagram Story on Friday, bringing the legal development into public view.
Anjorin’s reaction centres on the timing and manner in which the court documents were publicised. Her assertion that such publication makes a case “fake” is her own claim and is not a finding contained in the court order.
The development marks another chapter in the prolonged public dispute between Anjorin and Priscilla’s family, particularly Priscilla’s mother, actress Iyabo Ojo.
The disagreement has played out largely on social media and has previously resulted in legal action, including a ₦1 billion defamation suit filed by Iyabo Ojo against Anjorin.
In recent weeks, the dispute has also drawn Priscilla and her young son into the controversy, following public comments by Anjorin concerning the family.
Kesiena Tony Adjekpovu, popularly known as Kess, has said that participating in Big Brother Naija can make life harder, offering a candid reflection on the challenges that may come with the reality television experience.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate made the comment in a statement shared on social media, where he suggested that winning or simply taking part in the reality show does not necessarily make life easier after leaving the house.
“Big Brother makes your life harder,” Kess said.
The remark has drawn attention because life after reality television can bring a different set of expectations, particularly as former housemates adjust to increased public attention and the pressure that can accompany visibility.
Kess was a housemate on the seventh season of Big Brother Naija, which aired in 2022. He entered the show as a businessman and was among the contestants who competed for the season’s grand prize.
His time on the programme also placed him in the public eye, giving viewers an opportunity to follow his personality and relationships inside the house.
Kess’s latest comment offers a more reflective view of the reality TV platform, suggesting that the experience does not end when a contestant leaves the house.
However, he did not provide further details in the available post explaining which specific aspects of life after Big Brother he was referring to.
