Nigerian Police Forgives Nollywood Actress for National Anthem Mix-Up
In a heartwarming twist, the Nigerian Police have extended forgiveness to Mercy Isoyip, the rising Nollywood actress known as Descushiel, who accidentally fumbled the National Anthem at a recent police retreat in Imo State.

The big reveal came directly from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who shared the news on the official Police X account this Monday.

Just a week ago, a viral video showed Ms. Isoyip, a talented Nollywood star with notable films like ‘His Kids,’ ‘Who Loves Me,’ ‘House Help,’ and ‘Unforgivable’ under her belt, struggling with the National Anthem during a recital at the ongoing conference and retreat for senior police officers in Imo State. To add a twist, she was wearing a police uniform during the performance, which led many to believe she was a policewoman.

The event was graced by dignitaries such as the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam; Interpol’s president, Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzo; and both the Inspector General of Police and the acting Inspector-General of Police, Acting IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
This mix-up sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many Nigerians expressing their disappointment in both the Nigerian Police Force and Ms. Isoyip for her National Anthem mishap.

However, Ms. Isoyip, who also goes by the name Descushiel when she’s in her rapper mode, quickly took to Instagram to post an apology video.
A week later, Mr. Egbetokun addressed the issue at the conclusion of the three-day police retreat in Owerri. He offered an understanding perspective, suggesting that stage fright may have overwhelmed the young actress, considering the prominent figures present at the event.
In his words, “A young lady was brought on stage to sing the national anthem, and towards the end, I think stage fright caught up with her, and she made a mistake, which became a whole lot of issue, especially on social media.

The lady made a public apology and made a video apologizing to the Nigerian Police Force, and I felt so sorry about the error on her part. I think to err is human, and the stage is quite massive, bringing such a young lady to sing the national anthem, especially with the array of dignitaries.”

In conclusion, the Inspector General pledged the police force’s continued support for young talents and their creative endeavors.
