WapTV Nigerian movie broadcast rights secured as channel acquires hundreds of films featuring top Nollywood stars for May 2026 premiere

WapTV has concluded a major acquisition deal for the broadcast rights to hundreds of premium English, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba films produced by leading Nigerian filmmakers, in a move set to significantly expand its indigenous content offering.

The new collection of films, scheduled to begin airing from 2 May 2026, features standout performances from some of Nigeria’s most recognisable screen talents, including Rita Dominic, Odunlade Adekola, Ali Nuhu, Jumoke Odetola and Segun Arinze among many others.

WapTV said the expanded slate also includes appearances from veterans such as Yinka Quadri, Tina Mba, Victor Osuagwu, Fausat Balogun and Belinda Effah, reinforcing its commitment to showcasing a broad spectrum of Nollywood talent.

The broadcaster confirmed that the acquisition spans multiple language categories, reflecting Nigeria’s diverse film industry and its growing regional appeal.

It noted that the films were sourced from prominent producers including Bolaji Ahmed Kuforiji, Alh. Hissa Yusuf, Yousuph Olawale and Lynda Clems.

According to WapTV management, the decision to secure the titles aligns with audience demand for relatable, locally produced content that reflects everyday Nigerian experiences and cultural identity.

The company added that the films are expected to strengthen viewer engagement, describing them as “authentically Nigerian stories” with strong emotional and cultural resonance.

WapTV, which has previously been recognised for promoting indigenous programming, said the new content rollout underscores its long-term commitment to supporting the Nigerian film industry while expanding entertainment access for audiences across the country.
