Basketmouth reveals plans to prioritise music and filmmaking in 2025, sharing his journey from aspiring musician to comedy stardom.

Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, has announced that he will dedicate 2025 to pursuing music and filmmaking, leaving comedy on the back burner.

The celebrated entertainer, known for his sharp wit and comedic prowess, shared these plans during an interview with Pulse, where he delved into his artistic journey.

Basketmouth revealed that comedy wasn’t his initial career choice but rather a fallback option when his first love, music, didn’t yield the desired results.

“I started with music but I saw that it wasn’t going to work,” he explained. “I have always been funny since primary school, but music was just a talent I felt I could use as a plaything. Rap was my thing, but after a while, I realised that it wasn’t going the way I wanted. Then I tried comedy—it was even by fluke. I was like, ‘this one is working. It must be the one.’”

Despite his unplanned foray into comedy, Basketmouth’s career soared. However, he now intends to return to his original passions: music and movies.

“I’m going to take music more seriously in 2025. I want to create EPs because there are some artists I want to work with,” he said, adding that filmmaking holds a special place in his heart.

“Movies are my first choice. I prioritise movies over comedy. It has always been like that—it’s just that I haven’t made the movie yet.”
