Browny Igboegwu criticises fake love in Nollywood

Browny Igboegwu calls out hypocrisy and “fake love” among Nollywood colleagues, urging them to stop speaking ill while pretending to show support.

Popular Nollywood actor Browny Igboegwu has taken a bold stance against what he describes as “fake love” and hypocrisy among his colleagues in the Nigerian movie industry.

In a candid post shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, Igboegwu expressed frustration with colleagues who, in his words, display “despicable” behaviours, only to later pretend to be supportive and celebratory toward the same people.

Addressing his concerns to the public and his industry peers, Igboegwu cautioned that he would distance himself from colleagues he identifies as backstabbers.

His message comes amid ongoing discussions within Nollywood about authenticity, respect, and camaraderie among actors and filmmakers.

“Make we take it easy with fake love in this our Nollywood,” Igboegwu wrote in his post. “One minute you are saying despicable things about your colleague, and the next minute you are posting and celebrating the same person. This is broad daylight witchcraft.”

Igboegwu’s post touched on a larger issue of sincerity within the industry, noting that “fake love” can be more harmful than open criticism.

He urged his colleagues to embrace genuine intentions, stating, “Please be genuine with your intentions towards people. Say no to fake love; it is worse than poison. If you can’t say something good about someone, please shut up.”

This call for transparency and genuine support highlights an ongoing debate within Nollywood regarding professionalism and the importance of fostering a supportive community.

Igboegwu’s comments resonate with many who advocate for a more united industry, free from backhanded remarks and concealed animosities.
