Nollywood veteran Bukky Wright reveals her desire to remarry, shares life experiences in the U.S., and teases upcoming movie “The Return of Omotara Johnson
Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed her desire to get married again, expressing hope that she would one day have a husband of her own.
The 58-year-old thespian made this heartfelt disclosure during a candid interview on BBC Yoruba, where she spoke about her personal journey, life abroad, and return to acting.
According to Bukky Wright, marriage is something she still prays for, even making it a prayer point during her pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
She clarified, however, that while she strongly desires companionship, she also accepts that if marriage does not happen again, she is at peace with her life’s journey.
“Yes, I want to get married again. I even prayed for it when I went to Mecca,” Bukky Wright shared. “But if it doesn’t happen, it’s not the end of the world.”
The actress, widely known for her iconic roles in Yoruba and English Nollywood films, relocated to the United States in 2008 to raise her two sons.
While abroad, she went through a divorce and battled periods of loneliness and depression, a difficult time that forced her to reevaluate her purpose and direction.
Determined not to succumb to hardship, Bukky said she refused to engage in dirty or menial jobs. Instead, she went back to school to study Information Technology, eventually specialising in Audit and Cybersecurity fields in which she has since built a successful second career.
“I told myself that I will not do dirty or degrading work,” she said. “So I went back to school. I learned IT, auditing, and cybersecurity.”
Now that her children are grown and independent, Bukky Wright says she is ready to return to her first love acting. She hinted at exciting new projects and asked fans to look out for her upcoming movie, “The Return of Omotara Johnson”, a sequel to one of her most beloved roles.
“My children are now old enough to take care of themselves, so I can return to acting. Expect me in ‘The Return of Omotara Johnson’ and other new projects,” she said.
Speaking on the evolution of Nollywood, Bukky Wright expressed pride in how far the Nigerian film industry has come. She praised the improved quality of production and storytelling, noting that things are now on a “bigger level” compared to when she first started her career.
“The industry has grown. It’s on another level now. I’m proud of the young filmmakers and what they’re doing.”
Bukky Wright’s interview has since sparked positive reactions online, with fans praising her resilience, graceful aging, and openness about personal struggles, love, and faith.
Many social media users commended her for being a role model, especially for Nigerian women in the diaspora who face similar challenges with identity, love, and reinvention.
While she continues to build her legacy on screen, Bukky Wright remains hopeful for love in her personal life—proof that it’s never too late to dream again.
