Nkechi Blessing defends Chike amid cancel calls over alleged affair, questioning online judgment as debate sparks mixed reactions

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has reacted strongly to calls for Nigerian singer Chike to be cancelled over an alleged affair with Sandra Edoho on Monday, May 25, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria, urging Nigerians to stop positioning themselves as moral judges in the ongoing controversy.

Nkechi Blessing Sunday, a Nollywood actress and media personality, took to her Instagram story where she dismissed growing online backlash against Chike following allegations linking him to Sandra Edoho, the ex-wife of media personality Frank Edoho.

The controversy had sparked widespread debate on social media, with some users calling for the singer to be boycotted while others defended him or questioned the sustainability of cancel culture in Nigeria’s entertainment space.

Reacting to the calls for cancellation, Nkechi Blessing questioned the authority of online critics to judge the singer’s personal life, suggesting that many of those leading the outrage were not in a position to act as moral gatekeepers.

“They said they will cancel him, as per una be Jesus Christ personal assistant?” she wrote, adding a sarcastic remark while referencing one of Chike’s songs playing in the background of her post.

Her comments quickly triggered fresh reactions across social media platforms, with users sharply divided over her stance and the broader issue of celebrity accountability.

Some users supported her view, arguing that cancel culture in Nigeria rarely leads to lasting consequences and often fades quickly. Others insisted that the alleged conduct, if true, was morally questionable and could damage the singer’s public image over time.

A user identified as @CryptoYoungprof said the singer’s alleged actions reflected poorly on his character, while also noting that public outrage may not necessarily translate into real consequences.

Another user, @ann_omatf, described cancel culture in Nigeria as “trending culture”, arguing that public attention usually shifts quickly to new controversies.
