Nigerian singer and songwriter Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has shared a message of purpose and perseverance for emerging artists in the country’s ever-competitive music scene.

In a candid interview with Sunday Sun, Spyro encouraged young creatives to resist the pressure of instant fame and focus instead on delivering original, heartfelt work.

He explained that audiences naturally gravitate towards music that is honest and rooted in real emotion.

“I think it’s about the feel. I always say that before you hear my music, you feel it. That track was created from a real place, filled with joy and intention,” he said.

According to the singer, music should stir something within the listener—whether that is joy, peace, or simple enjoyment. It is this connection, he said, that gives a song staying power.

Spyro spoke about his writing process and how he balances raw creativity with strategy. While acknowledging the role of platforms like TikTok in music promotion, he cautioned against creating solely for trends. I

nstead, he urged young artists to stay true to their vision.

“It’s a bit of both. I create from the heart, but I’m also aware of strategy. After the song is born, we think about how it will exist in the world,” he explained.

Spyro stressed that it is better to build gradually than to rely on temporary hype. “Don’t chase virality; instead, chase value. Be original, be consistent, and don’t despise small beginnings.”

The 34-year-old musician rose to fame in 2022 when his single *Who’s Your Guy* resonated with fans across the country. Since then, Spyro has continued to build his craft while keeping his values intact.

He reflected on his early struggles and the importance of spiritual grounding. “I was trained on these streets too. Build your craft, put your work out there, and trust God’s timing. Also, please don’t fake it. Social media moves fast, but authenticity lasts longer.”

Spyro’s message to aspiring artists is not only timely but timeless.
