Femi Adebayo Seven Doors has taken the spotlight at this year’s Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, emerging as the frontrunner with nine impressive nominations.

The 17th edition of the annual awards was unveiled at a glamorous ceremony in Lagos on Monday, celebrating the creativity and resilience of Nigeria’s film industry.

The cinematic thriller, directed by Adebayo alongside Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani, has been hailed as one of Nollywood’s finest productions of the year.

Its sweeping nominations, including Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Production Design, underline its strong critical acclaim and audience appeal.

Hot on its heels is Abanisete, produced by and starring Ibrahim “Itele” Yekini, which secured eight nominations, while Mercy Aigbe’s My Mother Is a Witch and Farmer’s Bride followed closely with seven and six nods respectively a remarkable feat that cements her influence as both an actress and producer.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, praised the awards’ homecoming to Lagos, calling it a celebration of artistic excellence.

“Lagos is the home of excellence and aquatic splendour,” she said, noting the excitement surrounding the planned Guinness World Record attempt for the longest red carpet.

Yinka Adebayo, Group Executive Director for West & Central Africa at Omnicom Media Group, also commended the organisers, describing the awards’ consistency as “fantastic”.

He lauded BON founder Seun Oloketuyi and his team for “seventeen years of unwavering dedication” to honouring Nigerian filmmakers.

The much-anticipated BON 2025 Awards ceremony will take place on 14 December at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. With Femi Adebayo Seven Doors leading the charge, all eyes are on who will take home the ultimate crown of Movie of the Year.
